From the heart of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, six-piece rock outfit Odd Man Out maintains their classic sound with Quadranium, the group's fourth release. Integrating robust rock elements with deep, warm brass tones, especially the saxophone, the band members consider this effort to be their finest and most personal work yet.
The album’s creation timeline spans a period fraught with both personal and global turmoil. "It's our fourth studio album, and strangely enough, it took us four years to complete," shares Chris Myers, a guitarist in the group. It all began with promising demos in early 2020, but the process was soon overshadowed by a series of personal and global upheavals— the pandemic, the painful loss of Myers’ father, and lead singer Nick Roy’s struggle with vocal nodules that left him silenced, unable to sing for over a year. Despite these obstacles, the band pressed on, finding solace and expression in their music.
Recorded at Reveal Studios under the watchful eye of sound engineer Warren Reville, and mixed and mastered by the returning duo Craig West and Will Geraldo, Quadranium has been a labor of love from start to finish. The album touches on a wide range of heartfelt themes, including life, death, love, loss, parenthood, and social injustice, reflecting the personal growth and challenges the band members have experienced. Chris Myers describes the album as a diary, with each song representing a different chapter of their lives, offering listeners a glimpse into the band's journey through music.
When it's all said and done, Quadranium is more than just an album for Odd Man Out; it is a testament to their perseverance, a celebration of their musical bond, and a shared experience of overcoming adversity. Indeed, this album is not just a collection of songs, but rather a narrative of resilience, crafted to echo in the hearts of those who hear it, reminding them that they are not alone in their struggles.
